These two Japanese directors known as masters of screwball comedy (Adrenaline Drive 99, Dancing with Hydra, 1999) continue to ply their trade! This collection of 14 short video pieces is simple and yet ever so quirky and surreally funny. Each of the episodes has only two rules: a fixed camera and a continuous shot.
Some of the stories: "the Bra", a brassiere falls onto a man’s window ledge from the floor above. He tries to see where it came, from with no luck. When his girlfriend comes over a few moments later she sees the bra and thinks that he is cheating on her and breaks up with him on the spot.
Let’s Armageddon: here two schoolgirls are sitting on someone’s porch. They’re talking when suddenly the door slides open and the man asks loudly what are they doing there. He then pulls the girl nearest to him into the apartment and slides the door shut. The girlfriend is shocked and looks on in disbelief, hearing her friend cry for help. The guy’s friend shows up and knocks. The guy then opens up the door and begins to apologize, saying that he was getting ready for Armageddon and needed a bride. He begins to go back to cleaning his apartment and the two girls offer to help.
Cats Meow: a woman comes into a guy’s apartment saying that she had just bumped into his girlfriend claiming she was his cat. She then went on to say things that she noticed about the relationship and what his girlfriend was thinking. She leaves and then the girlfriend comes in a minute later, followed by his cat. This piece in particular was very well done and had me laughing out loud, it was surreal and a great performance by the girlfriend, as the cat!
