Le "Poulpe" (the "Squid"), steady, resilient with suction cups?! This stylish french thriller is energetically mysterious and very well crafted- Squid (Jean-Pierre Daroussin) is never identified as a cop, but he's got guns and more than happy to use them... He's a detective, a sleuth, a secret agent... on the trail of something serious... He's methodical, perceptive and persistent and has problems with shoes! His girlfriend Cheryl (Clotilde Courau) is an ultra-hip freewheening sex-kitten: suggestively exposing her chest to the equally cute department store clerk while trying on a T-shirt and a sexy come hither look. Cheryl brings Squid to her home town looking for the robbers of her grandparent's grave and as the corpses start piling up, things get interesting very quickly. The cinematography is very well done, and the soundtrack is quite energetic. This is an excellent thriller in any language!
