Open Sea
(Mare Largo)
Directed by Ferdinando Vicentini Orgnani

Edoardo (Claudio Amendola) a "freelance" ship captain is back in town...for more work and to see his old lover Isabella (Isabella Ferrari) who had also been his brother's ex-wife. Though they seem to love each other, Edoardo's true love seems to be the sea. He goes to see his old boss (R.Serbezija) for work and ends up being conned into smuggling a shipment of arms to Bosnian rebels.
The pacing of the film is slow & measured and we get to "know" the characters and make our alliances with them. Things begin to heat up when Captain Edoardo must go up into the mountainside through Serbian territory to get his money. The war scenes are gritty and believable and when the Bosnian camp is overrun by the Serbs, the odds against the Captain making it back to the ship are going up, way up!
